Steps to Hosting an Unofficial Tournament

Hey guys!! Welcome to another fun filled post about Quidditch!!! This is about how to plan a Quidditch Tournament. It was hard work to put together but with these few steps I believe you will get some great information from this!!

Step One: Pick A Date. It’s important to be able to set a date so you can get the word out there to everyone. It is also helpful in you are apart of a Facebook group to get information out there along with having your own email address for the club. We picked March 24th, 2018
Step Two: Set up a registration form. This is important to let people know where you are having the tournament and what the date is for it as well. This also allows for you to let the teams know if there is going to be an expense involved with registration. We held ours at the Morgan Soccer Complex in Fulton Missouri and we had a registration fee of $20. It is helpful to set up a paypal account so the teams can pay before the tournament. Here you can also ask other teams to bring Quidditch Equipment if you do not have the equipment available to you.

Step Three: Post about the event. Get other teams engaged in the event, let them know of things going on and how they can be apart of your tournament. Communication is key when it comes to putting together a tournament.
Step Four: Make sure you have everything you need to host the tournament. Make sure you have the deposit of the field paid. You have field paint, Home Depo has 12 cans of field paint for $80.17 not including tax, that is the best deal we could find, and we only used maybe 2 cans of each white and orange paint. Make sure you have 100-foot measuring tapes and that you have a field sprayer, if not doing it my hand is okay as well.
Step Five: Make sure you have Refs and Snitches available. It is important to make sure you have official Refs working the event and if it an unofficial tournament you are not required to pay them. Your snitches can be volunteers from any team, but preferably from the team reffing the event.
Step Six: Make sure you have Event/Waivers done. I say this because I left this off until the last minute and it didn’t turn out very well for me and on game day people forgot them. So, make sure you send them out in a timely manner and make sure you get them back as well.
Step Seven: Make sure you have an Athletic Trainer. This can be an EMT or an AT. Just make sure you check the costs on how much it is going to cost or if it is going to be free of charge. If someone gets injured, the athletic trainer can step in to help.
I know I am properly forgetting something, but this tournament went well. We have 5 teams come and we placed third which is good for us. March 24th was a cold and rainy day to have a tournament, but all in all it was a well planned tournament and people showed up for it. Always feel free to ask questions and I will always freely answer them.
Until the ‘morrow we will speak again
