Decorating a Dorm Room on a Budget

Hey guys! I'm going to give you a few tips on decorating a dorm room on a budget. We are all college students and we know how broke we are right? So does that mean our rooms should suffer? Of course not! Your room should still look bomb. So here are a few tips.

1) Buy quality pieces that will last a long time.
At the beginning of freshman year Aly and I went to Hobby Lobby and bought a few quality pieces. if you look here and here you can see the same pieces as in the picture below from this year. we may have spent quite a bit of money on them freshman year but they will last us all four years and beyond. as long as you choose pieces you love and that won't go out of style in a few months buying quality pieces will be better in the long run.

2) Make your own
Every year there has been something that we made in our room. The first year I made the DREAM, TRY, DO GOOD sign which I also saved for second year. Second year Jennah and I made a sign for the living room. The Here's to the nights that turned into mornings with the FRIENDS that turned into family sign. This year we made banners with our names on it. making decorations together can be a great bonding experience. Or if you prefer to do it yourself it can be a great de-stresser.

3) Christmas!
Last year my brother made us these gorgeous shelves for our wall. I had mentioned something about needing shelves for our "kitchen" and lo and behold he made me shelves. if you need something for your room put it on your Christmas list! or Birthday, or whatever.

4) Ask
Now I know not everyone has grandparents has amazing as mine. My grandparents are our entire room's grandparents :) My grandma thinks we are all going to starve and makes sure we have everything we need. pillows for the couch, a DVD player for the living room, enough food to last us a week. and while i know not everyone's grandparents can do this if you really need something and you ask I'm sure someone will help you out. Parents, grandparents, favorite Uncles, they want the best for you and will help you out.

5) Wait to buy until you get to campus
DO NOT buy all kinds of decorations and stuff for your room before you get to campus. no I'm not saying wait to buy everything until you get there because Walmart won't have anything with everyone getting back on campus. but wait until you move into the space to buy your decorations and such. it can save you a lot of money.

6) Ask around
If you know you are going to need something for your room next year (and its getting close to the end of the year) ask around. There might be a Senior who doesn't need theirs, or someone moving off campus who doesn't want theirs. William Woods has a Facebook page kinda like a Buy, Sell, Trade that is great for this. If your school doesn't have one start one. or just start asking. If you find a piece that isn't quite what you want but will work you can refurnish it or paint it to make it your own style.
