Smart Eating to avoid the “Freshman 15”

The expression “Freshman 15 “ is a common term used of weight gained during a student’s freshman year of college.  As a WW freshman last year, I attempted to make smart eating choices to avoid the weight gain.

Tucker Hall is where both students who live on William Woods campus and commuters gather for meals.  There is a full salad bar with veggies and fruit, healthy entrées and other smart choices.  William Woods offers two meal plans:  14 or 19 per week.  There is a $75 difference per semester between the plans.

Other solutions for meals include bringing the compact frig to your dorm!  If one were to open my fridge, you would find LOTS of bottled water, milk, fruit, salsa and cheese sticks. A self-made pantry stocked by Mom before leaving for college is a treat.  Mine included Romen Noodles, (which aren’t the healthiest solution, but very cost efficient), popcorn, granola bars, fruit snacks, and boxes of Nerds (Yes, an addiction of mine and a must to survive studying for finals).   Microwaves are not allowed within the dorms but can be located on each floors kitchenette area.

I can’t say I avoided the “Freshman 15” last year, but will give a better attempt as a sophomore.
