In this post, we will discuss the items
that seem like the most troublesome things to bring: The Big Stuff. If you have
a roommate, it might be helpful to coordinate with them and see if y’all want
to share or just bring your own. Also consider your available space in your
method of transportation to make sure you are physically able to bring
these items along.
Here are some Bulky Items to consider:
·
Mini Fridge – make sure you check
with the dorm restrictions before purchasing
·
Printer – make sure you bring the
necessary cords and accessories such as plenty of paper and ink!
·
Comfy Chair – sometimes the chair
colleges provide you aren’t that comfortable! If you have space, a soft place
to plop down might be a blessing during long study sessions or movie nights.
·
Shelving – Unless you know for
sure where you will put it, wait to bring/purchase any extra bookshelves or
storage containers.
·
Rug – your feet will thank you.
Coordinate with your roommate!
·
Drying rack – bring one! Or be
like me and just hang wet clothes everywhere
·
Footstool/ottoman – most of these
come with built in storage space that is perfect for blankets or movies
·
Large lamp – Make sure you have
several sources of light. A floor lamp is cool since it can either light up the
whole room or focus on a specific area
Remember, it might be wise to wait until
you move in to get some of these items, like a rug, shelving or a chair. Dorms
are usually smaller than you think, so don’t waste storage space on items that
can be cheaply bought later. Also, consulting these items with your roommate(s)
will result in a more coordinated room. Some people prefer to have their own
fridge/printer, while others would rather share.
One last piece of advice: Don’t forget
that you can ship items directly to your school! It saves space and effort.
Just bring a friend along when you pick it up at the mail room so you don’t
have to lug a mini fridge up 3 flights of stairs all by yourself 😊
Happy Packing!
