With being a CJ Major, I decided to do an Internship
with the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department this semester. Most of the things
I do, I can not talk about because of confidentiality and some of it is just
too hard to explain in writing, so this post may seem like it doesn’t have all
the information needed, but I wanted to let you know what was going on at my
internship.
Now I really like this internship and I work around a
lot of good people. These people have humor, a sense of sarcasm which goes
great with who I am. I am glad that Boone County screwed up and could not take
me as an intern because I have loved every moment I have been at the Callaway
County Sheriff’s Department. I see things everyday that gives me hope and
sadness in society, but nobody should be afraid because this is how life goes
and things happen for a reason.
While at my internship I work with a Sargent who is
also the evidence manager. Most of my days are filled with doing things related
to taking in evidence from cases and organizing them into their respective
spots into the evidence building. With images, they have to be placed into the
image server which is very protected. Sometimes we pull cases to that are many
years old to be submitted for destruction. I spend a lot of time filing
paperwork. It is not all kicks and giggles in the law enforcement industry,
there is a lot of paperwork that goes along with protecting the public. On some
occasions we have returned items to their owners.
I wish I could tell you more, but there are a lot of
confidential aspects to what I do and I will always suggest doing what you love
and when you get to school do an internship. Do it and you won’t regret it!
Until the ‘morrow we will speak again
